The Magic Recurring Number

The Trick
Take a pen and a piece of paper and write down the following 8 digitnumber.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 9

Ask a friend to circle one of the digits.

For example, if they circle number 4 then ask your friend to multiply the 8 digit number by 36. The result will be:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 9
x 36
4 4 4 4 ...

Method 1: Adding/Subtracting same number on both sides of the equation
X+1=2
The Rule: X has to stay by itself on the left side of the equation
In order to get x by itself on the left side of the equation, we are using the additive inverse.
X+1-1= 2-1
(“-1”is added on the both sides of the equation)
On the left side, we are reducing the digit “1” with it’s inverse “-1”
X=1
